Ready, set, go...

If you are reading these lines it’s because somehow you were interested in the small portion of this project you’ve read or heard about so first of all: Thanks for giving this project a little bit of your time!

The project consists in running 226 kilometers in one of the most demanding Triathlons of the world, an Ironman, this May 31st and use the sacrifice, effort, commitment and dedication of the training and race day as an excuse to motivate people like you to support “La Sagrada Familia” Children’s Community (Comunidad de NiƱos “La Sagrada Familia” in spanish).

This community is a small institution that houses homeless children in Peru. At this time they’re supporting almost 700 children, ranging from 1 month to 17 years old. Their goal is to protect and give the children a proper education and a solid formation that will allow them to be a valuable part of society in the future. Their financing comes mainly from voluntary donations although some of it comes as a result of selling products that come out of the different workshops they have (carpentry, serigraphy, bakery, pottery, among others).

More tan 1,500 children have already been taken care of by this community on the 17 years they have been helping. Today the community is committed to give the children an adequate life condition while assuring to cover for their food and basic needs.

It is here where your active participation is a key factor for the future success of this community.

How can you help?

By donating US$ for each kilometer of the race. Everything helps to fund this community and assure they can keep helping so many kids and be sustainable in the future. Everything we raise will go directly to the community.

What is my commitment in exchange for your support?

Besides finishing the race, and for that obviously I’ll have to practice - a lot! -, my commitment is to coordinate this fund raising project and keep you updated with all the details of the community, training process and funding raising through this blog.
On addition, I´ll do whatever is on my hands to spread this project’s purpose and raise as much as possible (it’s specially on this part where you and everyone can help us!)

In simpler words, my commitment is to dedicate each day some of my time and try that this idea, project, hope, dream or whatever you want to call it comes out great! It’s in our hands to make this right.

How do I donate?

If you want to support us, you just need to make your donation through the PayPal button created for this (it’s a secure transaction) or order a money transfer to one of the accounts shown below (for the moment only peruvian accounts available but hopefully we’ll have accounts available for other countries very soon). Once you’ve donated please send me a confirmation e-mail to ourgoal.theirfuture@gmail.com so I can thank you personally as well as update the doner’s list.

If you have any questions or would like to contact me for further information please do it to the above mentioned e-mail.

How much should I donate?

There’s not a minimum amount per person. The important thing is that you join the project and donate whatever you can, and feel comfortable with, to help support the community. Your help could also be invaluable in communicating others about this project.

We will account the donations as PEN (Peruvian Nuevo Sol) per kilometer.

For you guys out there that can donate PEN 1 per kilometer (a total of PEN 226 equivalent to about US$ 73) it would be great but of course any fraction of that is also more than welcome!

What is the goal?

Our goal is the children’s future but in terms of economic goal, we’ve set the bar in PEN 500 per kilometer (PEN 113,000 in total which is about US$ 35,000). This is the amount needed to fund projects that will give the community a sustainable future (in future posts I’ll detail some more about the projects and how our raising will help them)

After all this writing and as a way to make the wheel start turning, besides the time I’ll dedicate to the project, the first donation is on me and my wife. The first PEN 2 per kilometer are already in the accounts (a total of PEN 452)

Now the rest is up to you! Help us help them!

Our goal: their future

Introduction

OUR GOAL: THEIR FUTURE - La Sagrada Familia Children’s Community

Hi,

It’s not easy to ask for help.

It’s even harder to ask for help for someone else.

But if the one receiving this help is someone with much deeper needs than ours, then the task might be less hard.

My name is Juan Pablo Olivares Arbaiza and I’m running 226 kilometers to raise funds to support La Sagrada Familia Children’s Community.

This community is a small institution that's financed basically from voluntary donations. They house almost 700 peruvian homeless children, taking care of them and assuring them a proper education. More tan 1,500 children have already been taken care of by this community on the 17 years they have been helping (more information in www.sagradafamilia.org.pe ).

The challenge of running the 226 kilometers consists on being part of one of the most demanding Triathlons: an Ironman. The race will be held in Brazil on May 31st and has a maximum time limit of 17 hours. The competition includes 4km of swimming in open waters (about 2.4 miles), 180km of biking (about 112 miles) and then running a full marathon of 42km (26.2 miles), in that order and one part straight after the other.

My commitment, besides finishing the race, is to coordinate this fund raising project and keep you updated with all the details of the community, training process and funding raising through a blog created for this purpose.

How can you Help and become a part of this? By donating US$ for each kilometer of the race. Everything helps to fund this community and assure they can keep helping so many kids and be sustainable in the future. Everything we raise will go directly to the community.

If you are interested in the idea and want to support us please join us at
http://ourgoaltheirfuture.blogspot.com to see in more detail what the project means and you can become a part of it.

On behalf of the 700 children that are in the community today, the ones that will enter it in the future and everyone supporting them, I appreciate your time and hope you can be part of this project.

OUR GOAL: THEIR FUTURE - Help us Help them!

Regards,
Juan Pablo
